Hen Eviction and Polytunnel Project
Bluebells, snowdrops and daffodils, the first signs of Spring. You can't deny the feeling you get when the days stretch a little longer and air feels a little warmer. The first glimpse of sunshine has us all running outside.
The annual feat of trying to organise the somewhat neglected tunnel ensues. This year we were inspired by Kitty Scully, Kevin’s sister and gardener extraordinaire who is live on the Today show every Friday giving advice on preparations, sowing and planting your garden.
Our first day in the tunnel was quite eventful, we cleared the tunnel of all unwanted miscellaneous items, and marked the raised beds and walkways. Under a briar infested corner we discovered our hen, Henrietta's, secret stash of eggs. And finally we made extravagant plans for what the garden might look like this summer. The hope and excitement it brought raised everyone's spirits.
Kevin’s top tip - sow one or two things that are easy to grow, low maintenance high yield plants are the best i.e. strawberries or lettuces for example rocket. These plants guarantee results and might just be the motivation you need to start growing more demanding plants.
